Origin of cats Print E-mail

The cat house concerns the category of mammals, family of the cat's. This family unites both for a long time died out, and nowadays existing representatives. In total 37 kinds cat's are known. The origin of the cat's has centuries-old history.

About the big variety and a wide circulation ancient predators of vivier family 30-35 million years ago have reached. Some of them have served as initial forms of modern kinds of the wild and house cat's. Ancient initial and, probably, the main ancestor of all breeds and versions of a house cat it is considered to be «wild North African dun» or «the Libyan cat». It is still known as "steppe", "nubian", received this name from the ancient state Nubia located in territory of present Sudan. In a wild condition this cat has remained up to now. It is extended across all Africa and in an extensive zone from the Mediterranean to China. Lives in deserts with thickets of a black saxaul, in bushes near reservoirs, in foothills, in mountains, sometimes - near to settlements. Eats basically small rodents and a bird. Large enough with a narrow, long body and high feet. Colour mainly brown with dark cross-section strips. Tail thin, pointed. On appearance it is similar to a house cat, but strongly become thin. It is easily tamed (even adult). In countries of Western Europe and Asia Minor «the European cat» is extended «wild wood», or. It also lives in territory of Moldova, caucasus, the south of Ukraine. Lives usually in woods, thickets of a bush and reeds far from settlements, but can sometimes settle on attics of houses. Eats small rodents and a bird. Hunts at the nights. Colour grey different intensity with yellowness and dark stains or cross-section dark strips on a trunk. By the form it is difficult to distinguish from a grey house cat. It looks larger (basically because of long and magnificent fur), with the thick tail chopped off on the end. Unlike a wild African cat приручению practically does not give in, even then, when for this purpose take kittens. Number of a wild wood cat decreases because of cutting down of woods and hybridization with the house cat who has especially run wild. Therefore populations of a "pure" wild wood cat, obviously, already are not present.

In territory of deserts, steppes and woods of the countries of the south of Asia there is «a Bengalese wild blue-eyed cat». Has a little extended, thickset body, rather long feet, a small head and a thin tail. A wool long, colouring motley, spotty. From the remained wild cats it is possible to name still «barhan», "fish", «black mountain», «long tail», and also a "cane" and "Far East" cat and others occasionally meeting in territory of our country. Believe, that some versions of wild Asian cats (Bengalese) and European wood also have played a certain role in formation of a house cat.

Despite centuries-old history of mutual relations of a cat with the person, it has changed, unlike other animals, it is not enough. On appearance the house cat is surprisingly similar to the ancient ancestors. It is possible to notice only some changes in the ear structure, more expressed camber of temporal bones, truncation of a muzzle and a variation in colouring. On the other hand, it has kept the proud character and an independent way of life. It is possible to agree with opinion of researchers that a modern house cat, except for some decorative breeds, it is impossible to consider in full sense house as it almost entirely keeps in an invariable kind of a habit and behaviour of wild relatives, only having adapted them to new conditions of a life in the house. Cats very well are guided in unfamiliar conditions thanks to what, as a rule, always without special work find road home. But at impossibility to come back in former dwelling it quickly adapts to new conditions and even is capable to conduct a wild way of life.
